Customer finds loophole in store's return policy, maliciously complies to get on the entitled manager's nerves: 'You stepped out of the store, you don't get a refund'

Normally, we do not condone situations in which the customer is being difficult, but in this instance, it was warranted. When it comes to unnecessary rules that lack any semblance of logic or fairness, one cannot help but side with the person questioning those rules. Normally, when we see iterations of this dynamic in the workplace, we follow employees questioning silly rules established by their managers, and it often takes a healthy dose of malicious compliance to prove those managers wrong. 

Here, however, the customer was actually in the right. Contrary to what people of a certain generation may believe, the customer is often too entitled to be correct, but this time, we'll give it to you.   • This guy had only left his local store 20 minutes ago before learning that he didn't need a few products. Upon his return to the store, the manager explained that the only reason they cannot accept these products back is that he had set foot outside of the store. If he had decided to return his clothes before leaving, they would have processed the return. The only option, then, was to exchange the products for a voucher to be used immediately.     This happens in a large store in a European country. When you purchase something from them, and for any reason want to return the item, their policy is that they never give money back. They only give you a voucher redeemable same day only.

    You see where this is heading. Malicious compliance kicking in. I ask to return the items and get the voucher. I take the voucher, get inside the store, find a product to exactly same amount.
